One of the two popular and the most commonly used softwares by a millions of the Windows computer are very suspectible to attacks, for,due to a 3ivx MPEG-4 5.x glitch. Because of the usage of the Mp4 Codec by the two software programs all the PCs  that have installed with the Windows Media Player and Winamp would have a easy entry made by anyone who managed to exploit the fault, the security companies warned.

An exploitation could be easily conducted through a simple malicious MP4 file. This was reported in ”The Register”, by Raymond Ball where he wrote on the Symantec DeepSight Threat Management System. It also read as, the exploit works by supplying victims with a cruelly formed MP4 file. When a victim unknowingly clicks a link that appears safe, the MP4 content is delivered, causing the exploit to run. This warning was reported by the Security Company Secunia, yesterday, stating with an attachment of a highly critical level as it might have serious consequences for an affected system. The suspectability are caused by the boundary errors in 3ivxDSMediaSplitter.ax during the processing of certain atoms in the MP4 files. This could be browbeaten to cause stack-based buffer overflows through a specially crafted MP4 file, Secunia had reported in the security advisory.

There might be a question raised in the minds of the users who make use of the Windows Media Player version 6.4.09.1130, Media Player Classic version 6.4.9.0 or Winamp, with regard to its security. The Symantec expert report, tothe users as a solution, with regard to this, to remove the codec or disable media players that use the MP4 codec until the hole is plugged.
