I tried looking for "Set Notification Rules" under "Share" but it does not appear. Instead, Google offers to "Publish as Web Page" and set up an RSS feed for notification updates - a bit more involved than your directions AND has a lack of privacy to it. Personally, I think they should bring back the Notification option - not everyone is as tech-savvy as Google thinks they are.
