Google: Search punctuations and symbols now

You might have noticed Google ignoring punctuation and mathematical symbols from a query as it isn’t capable of indexing them and the meaning was rather changed by the index. Therefore, it was little difficult to get exactly what we needed. At the same time, some of the punctuation marks and mathematical symbols are being used to provide the advanced features like colon, quotes, minus sign and plus sign.

Besides, you might have noticed recently that Google started showing the results for queries like [.], [,], [:], [;], [#], [%], [@], [^], [)], [~], [|], ["], [<], [$]. Now, if you search [%], Google will display the results for [percent sign] and that happens irrespective of the interface language, so it’s not a synonym generated by Google’s algorithms.

If you search [:] and you’ll get the results for [colon]. Really a nice feature… check it out.

News: Google tests a new iGoogle interface

In order to make the iGoogle homepage more personalized, Google tests a new interface that lets you add gadgets and themes to it. The updated interface uses the design patterns that should be familiar by now from other Google services. Now, you can have the tabs in a dropdown that will be displayed below the search box.

Then, you can use the left sidebar only for the chat widget. For adding gadgets and changing the theme, you can have two buttons. The buttons will be located next to the options menu.

News: Google’s black navigation bar will be back?

In order to simplify the navigation bar, Google has attempted some tasks. However, it was not successful. The menu released six weeks ago is no longer available and it has been replaced with the old black navigation bar.

Therefore, it was not available with all the browsers. However, it was still available in Chrome, but that was no longer case after clearing the cookies. Google indirectly confirmed this change two days ago, when the screenshots from a Google blog post included the old bar.

While simplifying the things, you can end up making them more complicated. Therefore, if you hide any menu in the navigation bar will never help you as it should be obvious to simplify our tasks. As the new menu consumes more space than the navigation bar, everyone expects that Google will fix the navigation bar issue soon.
